Dark circles occur when the skin under the eyes appears darkened. It is different from bruising around an eye from an injury, or redness and swelling in one eye caused by an infection.
Dark circles are generally not a sign of a medical problem.
The Causes of Dark Circle
Dark circles are generally caused by fatigue. Sometimes what appears to be dark circles under the eyes can simply be the puffy eyelid shadows or hollows under the eyes that appear as a normal feature of aging.
Here are some of the most common causes of true circles under the eyes:
• Very thin people, since they do not have a sufficient amount of infraorbital fat.
• Seniors as a result of weakness of the muscles of the eyelids and that causes the skin to slide down forming folds or pockets.
• Sun exposure thins and dries the skin around the eyes, destroys collagen and elastin fibers.
• Dark-skinned people, since pigmentation is greater.
• Diseases that cause excessive itching, such as eczema and conjunctivitis.
• Rubbing the eyes excessively can irritate the delicate skin around them, making the veins in that area visible.
• It has been reported that cosmetic tattoos on the eyebrows and eyelids can migrate through the lymphatic system, producing or accentuating them.
• Tiredness and insomnia, factors that make them worse.
Natural remedies
A very effective trick is to soak some cotton pads in the chamomile infusion and apply it to closed eyes overnight.
- Almonds oil.
This type of oil hydrates the skin a lot. Experts recommend applying a little oil to the dark circles before going to bed. The results can be seen within two weeks of applying the treatment.
- Cucumber.
This vegetable is used to reduce puffiness in the eye area. It is recommended to apply fresh cucumber slices on the eyes for a few minutes to take effect.
This plant is known for its healing properties and considerably reduces dark circles. Simply apply a little product to the area and let it act for a few minutes.
- Special mask for dark circles.
Mix 5 drops of lemon with the juice of half a tomato and ½ tablespoon of wheat flour until it forms a paste. Apply the emulsion to the eye area and leave for 5 to 7 minutes. The treatment should be applied two to three times a week.
