Warm olive or coconut oil

FoodStrong evidence

Massage a teaspoon of warm oil into the scalp, leave 15–30 minutes, then gently comb with a soft baby brush and wash with mild baby shampoo. Repeat 2–3× a week.

Calendula-infused oil

HerbModerate evidence

Used the same way as plain oil — adds gentle anti-inflammatory action ideal for irritated, reddened cradle cap.

Breastmilk

OtherTraditional use

Dab a few drops of breastmilk onto the scalp and leave to air dry — traditional remedy supported by anecdotal antimicrobial effect.

Soft-bristle brush + gentle combing

OtherStrong evidence

After oiling, gently brush flakes loose with a baby comb or soft brush. Never pick at attached scales — let them lift on their own.

Probiotic (for nursing parent)

OtherModerate evidence

A daily multi-strain probiotic taken by a breastfeeding parent may help reduce infant seborrheic dermatitis over time.

A note of caution. Natural doesn't mean risk-free. Herbs and supplements can interact with medications, affect pregnancy, or worsen certain conditions. Speak with a qualified clinician before starting a new regimen, especially if you take prescriptions.
