Kidney Detox & Filtration

Support the kidneys' filtration of metabolic wastes, uric acid, and environmental toxins with gentle diuretic and mineral-rich herbs.

Prevention
Key nutrients: Magnesium, potassium, citrate, B6, omega-3, antioxidants; adequate water.
Eat regularly: Cucumber, watermelon, celery, parsley, cilantro, cranberries, blueberries, lemon water, leafy greens, beets, asparagus; limit excess sodium, sugar, and animal protein.
Drink ~2 L filtered water daily, urine pale yellow. Limit NSAIDs, alcohol, and high-fructose corn syrup, which stress nephrons.

Nettle leaf

HerbTraditional use

Daily infusion (1 oz dried leaf steeped 4+ hours in 1 L water) — mineral-rich gentle diuretic that supports renal filtration without depleting electrolytes.

Dandelion leaf

HerbModerate evidence

Tea or tincture 2–3×/day — potassium-sparing diuretic that increases urine output and supports clearance.

Parsley

HerbTraditional use

Fresh parsley daily or strong tea — traditional kidney flush; mild diuretic and chlorophyll-rich.

⚠ Cautions: Avoid high doses in pregnancy or with kidney disease.

Cilantro

HerbTraditional use

Large handful fresh daily — supports heavy-metal mobilization; pair with chlorella to bind what's released.

Cranberry (unsweetened)

FoodStrong evidence

30 ml concentrate in water daily — acidifies urine and protects against bacterial adhesion in the urinary tract.

Lemon water

FoodModerate evidence

Juice of ½ lemon in warm water on rising — citrate binds calcium and may help prevent stones.

Cornsilk

HerbTraditional use

Traditional soothing diuretic — tea 2–3×/day eases irritation in the urinary tract.

Magnesium citrate

MineralStrong evidence

200–400 mg/day supports kidney function and helps prevent calcium oxalate stones.

Chanca piedra ('stone breaker')

HerbModerate evidence

400 mg 2–3×/day — traditional Amazonian herb for kidney and gallbladder filtration; may help reduce stone formation.

Hydration

OtherStrong evidence

~30 ml water per kg body weight daily, more in heat or exertion — the simplest and most important kidney support.

Natrum Sulphuricum 6X (tissue salt)

MineralTraditional use

Schüssler 'water elimination' salt — 4 tablets 2–3× daily supports the kidneys and liver in clearing excess fluid and waste.

A note of caution. Natural doesn't mean risk-free. Herbs and supplements can interact with medications, affect pregnancy, or worsen certain conditions. Speak with a qualified clinician before starting a new regimen, especially if you take prescriptions.
